You can never have enough Rice Krispie treats recipe variations!  Merry “Crispmas” Squares have peanut butter in the marshmallow cereal treats.  And a colorful, yummy filling of frosting and candy-coated chocolate pieces.  They are both eye catching and delicious!.  Wrapping the squares individually in cellophane bags, keeps them soft and chewy.  Make some for your friends or to serve as party favors to hand out to guests.


Merry “Crispmas” Squares begins with stirring together the chocolate pieces and frosting.


Then you make 2 batches of the peanut butter, marshmallow cereal bars.  Spread the frosting on one pan of cereal bars.

Then top with another batch.  Cover and chill for 30 minutes, or until firm.  Then cut into 2-inch squares.

Vanilla frosting and red and green candy-coated chocolate pieces are sandwiched between two layers of peanut butter, marshmallow Rice Krispie squares.


  • 2-1/2 c. red and green candy-coated mini chocolate pieces
  • 1 can (16 oz) vanilla-flavored ready-to-spread frosting
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, divided
  • 10 c. miniature marshmallows, divided
  • 1 c. creamy peanut butter, divided
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup, divided
  • 10 c. crispy rice cereal, divided


  • 1)

    In a small bowl, stir together chocolate pieces and frosting; set aside.

  • 2)

    Melt 1/4 c. butter in a large pan.  Stir in 5 cups miniature marshmallows and cook until marshmallows begin to soften.  Turn off heat.

  • 3)

    Add 1/2 c. peanut butter and 1/4 c. corn syrup.  Stir in 5 cups cereal until well blended.

  • 4)

    With greased hands, press cereal mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.

  • 5)

    Spread with frosting mixture.

  • 6)

    Make a second batch of cereal mixture using remaining 1/4 c. butter, 5 c. marshmallows, 1/2 c. peanut butter, 1/4 c. corn syrup, and 5 c. cereal.

  • 7)

    Carefully press second batch of cereal mixture over frosting layer.  Cover and chill 30 minutes or until mixture is firm.

  • 8)

    Cut into 2-inch squares.  Store in an airtight container or individual baggies.
