PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE BEARS

Peanut Butter Cookie Bears are a wonderful way to take a special treat and make it EXTRA SPECIAL!  There’s something… well… special, about seeing food take the shape of something else.  Especially an adorable teddy bear.

Peanut Butter Cookie Bears

• PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE BEARS: A worthy but time-consuming project. •

Talk about getting hands-on with your food!  Peanut Butter Cookie Bears requires rolling balls of dough into several different sizes.  Making these would be a great activity with older children.  Maybe Activity Day girls, Cub Scouts, or, ahem, grandchildren.

Because making Peanut Butter Cookie Bears takes some time, I only make them for VERY special occasions.  Like delivering a plate of birthday cookies to a friend with a gift tag telling them how “Beary Special” they are to me.  Never take on this recipe for mass production.  You’ll go insane.

The only thing better than getting a peanut butter cookie shaped like a teddy bear is getting a whole plate of them!  Their peanut-buttery pudgy little bodies decorated with mini chocolate chips are too adorable for words.  Make some for a “beary special” friend today.

Peanut Butter Cookie Bears are a wonderful way to take a special treat and make it EXTRA SPECIAL! There’s something… well… special, about seeing food take the shape of something else. Especially an adorable teddy bear.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. creamy peanut butter
  • 1-1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2-1/4 c, all-purpose flour
  • mini chocolate chips, for decoration
  • 1)

    Preheat oven to 350°.

  • 2)

Beat shortening, peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and baking soda with an electric mixer on medium speed until well mixed. Stop the mixer occasionally to scrape down the bowl with a rubber spatula.

  • 3)

Add eggs and vanilla and mix to combine.

  • 4)

Add the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, to the peanut butter mixture.

  • 5)

To make one bear, shape the dough into balls of the following sizes: one 1-inch ball, one 3/4-inch ball, six 1/2-inch balls, and one 1/4-inch ball.

  • 6)

On the cookie sheet, use the bottom of a drinking glass to gently press the bear’s body (1-inch belly and 3/4-inch head), flattening it to 1/2-inch thickness.

  • 7)

Attach the 1/2-inch balls for arms, legs, and ears.

  • 8)

Place the 1/4-inch ball on the head for the nose.

  • 9)

Add mini chocolate chip eyes and belly button. Press lightly into the dough.

  • 10)

Repeat with remaining dough, leaving about 2-inches between bears.

  • 11)

Bake for 10-12 minutes until cookie edges are light brown.

  • 12)

Let cookies remain on cookie sheet for 1 minute, then transfer to cooling rack.
